I disagree. Soccer is the only sport I follow as closely as I do league, and the referees make just as many mistakes there. And a bad mistake in soccer is more likely to effect the outcome of the game than in league. But, on the whole, soccer fans aren't precious little bitches who demand sackings every time something goes against them.
It seems like we change our rules and interpretations 2 or 3 times a year, mostly in response to fan/media outrage. Which just fuels the outrage, as people have genuine belief they can change things.
The rugby league community works itself into a lather over every mistake at any level and claims that the very fabric of the game is in doubt. And it becomes self fulfilling. If you are looking for errors to get enraged over, you'll find them in any endeavour. And league fans are now specialists at getting enraged.
Honestly, 90% of the "solutions" to the bunker involve nothing more than going back to what we've done in the past. Only we hated that too which is why we don't do it any more.
I'll tell you what we can do to fix the bunker/refs/judiciary. Absolutely nothing. Because whatever we replace them with, everyone will think is fucking terrible within 2 months.
Collectively, league fans just need to go to bunnings, buy a big bag of cement, and harden the fuck up.
