Or its "if you want the your two byes through origin, you have to go play NZ on the other week".

Its pretty unfair making them travel and play against a near full strength team.

In saying that, they get an advantage over the rest of the league through all the FTA games and consistent turn arounds each week, so you cant really argue scheduling if youre a broncos fan IMO

maybe you might've had a point in previous seasons, but with the inclusion on Thursday night football, there no clear advantage to our schedule, i did some research on this when the point was made in the fantasy thread, but didn't post it because i didn't want to hijack the thread, but this seems as good as any place for it, i tallied up the turn-arounds for all 16 clubs up until the bye round, and i think it would be reasonable to assume that if we gain a clear advantage from our schedule, it would be very easy to pick out which of the following tallies belong to the broncos:

    01) 3 5-day, 1 6-day, 2 7-day, 2 8-day 1 9-day, 1 11-day
    02) 3 6-day, 4 7-day, 3 8-day
    03) 1 5-day, 4 6-day, 1 7-day, 2 8-day, 2 10-day
    04) 2 5-day, 2 6-day, 1 7-day, 3 8-day, 1 10-day
    05) 3 6-day, 5 7-day, 2 8-day
    06) 2 5-day, 3 6-day, 3 7-day, 1 9-day, 1 10-day
    07) 2 5-day, 2 6-day, 2 7-day, 3 8-day, 1 9-day
    08) 4 6-day, 4 7-day, 2 9-day
    09) 1 5-day, 4 6-day, 3 8-day, 2 9-day
    10) 4 6-day, 3 7-day, 2 8-day, 1 9-day
    11) 4 6-day, 2 7-day, 3 8-day, 1 9-day
    12) 4 6-day, 4 7-day, 2 8-day
    13) 2 5-day, 1 6-day, 5 7-day, 1 8-day, 1 10-day
    14) 1 5-day, 6 7-day, 3 8-day
    15) 1 5-day, 2 6-day, 3 7-day, 3 8-day
    16) 3 6-day, 4 7-day, 3 8-day

feel free to take a crack, i'll help you a little bit though, it's not 14, that's the Rabbits' tally.

Sure there are some teams that regularly play on saturday nights and sunday early, because of ratings.

So I would assume they have a lot of 6/7/8 day turnarounds going from either a thursday to a friday or a friday to a thursday or a thursday to a thursday, and a friday to a friday.

What I do know is that the Broncos are on tv virtually every thursday or friday nights.

It could be a few mate
there have been at least 3 8 day and 2 7 days

Broncos have the shortest turnaround between games. The idea of a scheduling advantage to Brisbane is a myth.

Not at all. Only 2 teams average less then 6.75 days turnaround between games, not including bye rounds. Brisbane & Manly.

ED: And Manly, GC & Canberra all have more consistent schedules then Brisbane aswell.

Brisbane only have 7 Friday games.

Titans play every game but 1 on a Friday or Saturday - 14 on the Saturday.
Cowboys also only have 1 game on a Sunday, nothing later & 14 Saturday games.
    Rabbitohs have 12 Friday games
Raiders have 11 Saturday games and no games outside of Fri-Sun
Eagles have 9 Saturday games and no games outside of Fri-Sun

If the conversation is advantageous schedules, we're in the wrong team's thread.

I would guess that 90% of brisbanes games are thursday and friday games, on free to air. Thats where the commercial advantage comes.

Gallen was talking about having 5 day turn arounds, and he said that the biggest disadvantage about it is only having 1 training session, usually the day before the game.

I dont think that there is any real on field advantage to having a longer or shorter (well not too short obviously) turnaround but its pretty nice for a team to be able to have 2/3 or more training sessions a week, pretty much every week.

Who plays 14 games before the bye rounds ? Or have you changed the data set to suit your argument ?

    :)

You would guess wrong (no surprise). Its about 70%. Same as the Rabbits, although they only play once on a Thursday and 66% of the time on a Friday alone. And it may be a commercial/exposure advantage but its not a competitive one - most teams sit at or around 70% of their games being played on 2 discriminate, consecutive days. Except the Raiders who are at 83% (Sat/Sun) and Titans who have 94% (Fri/Sat).

Data set is the 18 games + 2 byes scheduled up to round 20.
For the average turnaround between games (of which Broncos & Manly tie for the least), data set is only games played in back to back weeks. So not including byes or rep round.

We play 4 games of the 10 home games where the schedule has been announced on a Thursday. Our average home crowd on a Thursday this year is 25920 compared to other days is 33215. Adult ticket prices range from $28 to $102. IF we use $28 as the average ticket sales lost (many tickets are higher, but there would be quite a few concessional priced tickets as well), thats over $200K in reduced revenue every Thursday home game, so the commercial exposure gained from FTA coverage is at least significantly offset by reduced ticket revenue. The 30 June 2016 half year statements specifically mentioned the impact on revenue due to having 2 games to 30/6/16 compared to 1 to 30/6/15.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but don't the NRL compensate the home teams on Thursday nights? I thought that was part of the agreement.

Why the advantage is not immediately fiscal it's going to be over time. Sponsors know they can be seen by the whole QLD audience live more often than not. So they pay more for sponsorship and the Broncos can therefore attract more third party agreements. Which gives them a chance to have a better team on paper. Luckily the game is played on grass.

Yeah but unlike Tigers, Parra and Knights players; ours are usually well disciplined and behave themselves off the field and therefore just don't get the media exposure of these players/clubs.
This undoubtedly puts us at a significant financial disadvantage.
