I reckon they should have tried someone else. Not because he's done a terrible job, just because it was time for something different.

Come back in 5 years, 10 years, etc, etc.

Laurie Daley has been sacked. In the media statement NSWRL Chairman George Peponis said:

“He is a legend of the game and has done a tremendous job. He is the only New South Wales coach in the past 12 series who has won a series."

I'm guessing fans measure of a "tremendous job" is different to the board's.

I'm going to call it now. Freddy will be there as head coach with Johns as his assistant.

Interesting fact, Joey and Freddie are 0-3 when playing in the halves together at Origin.

Well unless they both plan on making a return to the origin arena and throwing on a jersey I don't see the problem. If Freddy gets the gig with Johns as his assistant they will both bring some much needed passion and genuine love for the NSW jersey that has sorely been missing for so long. They will both be able to build the camaraderie in camp and ensure all players go into every single game are willing to put their life on the line for the jersey. Plus the team bonding sessions will be top notch Cheers

Reckon Joey can recover from when he got a bit racial in camp and cause Tahu to walk out?

I dont know about Joey in a coaching role. He obv doesnt want to do it in any official capacity. I dont even know if he has the ability to dissect a team on video and then transfer that knowledge into other players - AND then get those players to perform that that game plan.

Then again, doing it for a short period against a Thurstonless and Cronkless QLD could be the best spot to start.

I dont think freddy would be a great coach but players love him and would definitely play for him.

IMO, NSW just need to select a couple of better harder working humble blokes.

Dont need a total clean out but stop picking pearce at 7 is the main one from a performance perspective. Just doesnt work at origin level. Was proven once again this year.

    Fergo can go.
    Dugan can prob go.
Hayne can go to the wing or bench, or go.
    Woods can go.
    Pearce can go.
    Maloney can go.
Peats can go unless he develops a kicking game and some attack out of 9.
    Graham can go.

Wait that is nearly a complete clean out lol

Do all you QLDer's sit back and laugh at the fumblathon that is looking for a NSW coach ?

It's embarrassing with every 2nd head on tv suggesting what is needed is more ex Nsw players in the locker room, like that has any factual impact.

Yep, gonna be interesting to see who the coach is.

If it's Sticky, I'll give it away.
If it's a Current club coach I'll give it away.

I think it will pro as be Fittler, and his about the same quality Mal was when he took over Qld so who knows how it might pan out but it means we won't see a change in the halves.

Surely Fergo and Dugan can't be selected again. As I've always said, though talented, they are a cancer.

I think his side will be something like this:

    Tedesco
    Mansour
    Bird
    Mitchell
    Hayne
    Maloney
    Pearce
    Klemmer
    Peats
    Woods
    Frizell
    Cordner
    JTrbojevic

    Peachey
    Merrin
    Vaughan
    Fifita

My darkhorse is Fitzgibbon - done a good enough job with the Country side in the past couple years and Freddy has a lot of commitments on his plate already - he'd have to give up his Ch9 job, for a few weeks at least.

Crighton is right up there too for a NSW berth. That bloke is a weapon.

For the centres it depends what position Bird plays at brisbane next year. If he plays back row I would have him on the bench. If he plays centre, then he would be starting centre IMO.

Walker and Roberts are fighting it out for that right centre spot.
Mansour and Mitchell fighting it out for the left wing spot.

Fifita is boarderline in the side... I mean he played the best props game ever in game one then had 2 shockers. IMO he is in the side for game 1 then if he doesnt perform then bye bye.

Adam Reynolds doesnt need to be there if Cleary is picked.
Cleary and Moylan are the front runners for the halves if Gould lets them play.

Korisau or how ever you spell it and Peats are fighting it out for hooker IMO. Api is so fucking under rated.

Woods can fuck off. Brown has been awesome this year, he wouldnt look out of place. At least he runs hard.

I love the peach but he will never get picked. As much as I would want him to.

Guys I would defintely look to get in the team: - TTurbo, Cleary (he'll have played 50 games by then).

Fighting for a spot, but in a perfect world maybe 1 more good season: - Crichton, Brown, Mitchell, Vaughan, Roberts, any number of average hookers who can come in and play an attacking role for 20-30 minutes, Cambell-Gillard (or is it Fisher-Harris - the one with the porn star moustache).

Guys elevated to starters: - Klemmer, JTurbo, Bird

Guys dropped never to be seen again: - Ferguson, Duges, Moloney

Guys who I'd keep around just for a bit of experience as there is already quite a few changes, and no-one screaming out for their spot: Jennings, Woods,

Guys who I'd only pick if they have a serious attitude adjustment: - Fifita, Pearce (but just as a bench hooker/utility)

Guys previously in the team who I'd consider again: - Mansour (certainty), Moylan (probably), D Tupou (maybe) A Reynolds (if Cleary is injured), D Walker, Merrin

Guys I'd drop because I think there are better options for their position: Graham

Everyone else who keeps their position: Teddy, Jackson, Frizell, Cordner, Peats

Also I'd have guys in the squad to be around the system without considering them because they're at least a couple of years off - Daniel Safiti, Waqa Blake, Watson

Way too early to start throwing around a team.
I know Dugan appears to have a red line through his name at the moment but for all anyone knows he might rock up at Cronulla, miraculously stop being a cockhead and start playing some great football.

First things first, you blokes need to sort out a coach and then let that coach implement their system (SOO is now a year round role....despite still only culminating in a 3 game series).

Personally, I think you need to look a bit left field and if culture is the problem, look to copy the QLD system and employ a coach who has been there and done it and commands the respect of the team....then start from there.

I'm thinking of blokes like Benny Elias or even Mark Geyer.

Fittler seems like he wouldn't take the role serious enough.
Johns I also used to think might fall into that category but his reaction this year tells me he wouldn't and might also be a good candidate.

Elias is a fucking idiot. Cant stand the bloke, can barely string a coherent sentence together and comes across as just the most arrogant agenda driven cockhead on tv. I cringe every time he is on 360 and it says a lot around SOO time that if the newspaper is looking for a ridiculous quote, they go to Elias.

NSW copied the QLD system - and it didnt work for us. Copying that system just doesnt work for NSW unless we have the players to compete.
Mal had done very little as a coach before coming into the QLD role, he was just lucky to have the players he had when he was coach. Culture building wise was he good? well the proof is there that he got superstars (who already had played together a lot) to play together and brought through some good young guys.

NSW dont have the luxury of having 3 immortals in the side who run the show from a playing and coaching perspective, so we need coach who can actually coach. NSW should be going for the best coach we have - Bellamy. Give him another crack and hope that he doesnt pick another steve turner. Or offer Bennett the job, he does any coaching gig if the price is right.

If they want to go down the full time SOO coach role, Fittler is the first option, he would take it seriously. He wants the job, The players love him, the game in general loves him and he prob deserves the chance to have a go. Johns... while he has the passion and had the ability to beat QLD on his own doesnt particularly want the job of head coach so he wont be there. Assistant or something, possibility yeh.

Fuck Dugan and Fuck fergo. They have been there and done it - there are now young guys ready to take their places who deserve it (at this point in time). Those two deadbeats can absolutely fuck off. Nothing but malignant cancers on the culture of the side.

Been saying that for years. Totally agree. I think he would have been excellent in this role. Might be too late for it now, but he 100% can not be the starting halfback. I would nearly even pick him as the starting hooker to offer the side a kicking game/bit of attack out of dummy half.
