No idea. I used to go on there a bit, but haven't posted in years. Have a browse every couple of weeks and its always the same ol rubbish.

Just felt inspired to take a peak. There's a thread whinging about a poll on nrl.com "greatest finals teams of the last 15 years" and they're all sooking because a broncos team isn't winning the vote. Christ.

I can't believe no-one's posted about Wayne Bennett having his contract not renewed after 2019 season.

Its kind of old news though. The club announced it, but the decision was made a month or two ago.

The media gets another run with it this week I guess.

Personally I'm happy with the call. I'm glad Bennett gets one more year but I'm also looking forward to a change after that (as long as it isn't Walters.. lol).

Saw it coming really. Just a shame he didn’t go on his own terms but in the same vein I understand at the end of the day the club is a business.

I wouldn’t have minded if he stayed but I’m not terribly cut up he’s leaving

Probably for the same reason nobody is posting about Parramatta winning the spoon.

Oates is re-signing, one down, two to go.

and in other news, apparently Hurrell is off to SL with us releasing Kahu to the Tits as his replacement, which would be an unfortunate move from a clubman perspective, but a good one when it comes to the business of winning games, he was out of his depth as a centre, and the emergence of Staggs this year didn't do him any favours, i think he could've had some left to give as a winger, but Oates and Isaako are holding that down, so all in all, it makes no sense for us to pay him representative-level money to play QCup and the bit freed up gives us some more room to secure Lodge and Pangai.

yeh, can't deny the bloke always tried his heart out, makes me sad to think of how good he could've been if his knees weren't so dodgy, considering how good he was at his peak despite them.

It'd be interesting to see what happens when Glenn comes off contract, the pair have always seemed to sign-on as a package deal and i think i remember the Tits chased him the last time he was off contract.

Reports today Oates will sign a long term contract to stay with the Broncs forgoing about $200K. Wasn't clear if that was over the course of the contract or next year. His chase of bigger dollars in the forwards and vocal support of Bennett makes me think there is a big fat clause which sees him walk at the end of next season with Bennett.

that makes no sense to me, he's off-contract and it's not like it's a un-known quantity anymore, Wayne won't be at the club in 2020, why would he sign a long-term contract at a discount if he already has his bags packed?

Because you only cop the discount for next year then activate your clause to walk and negotiate a new contract at the higher rate of a forward with whoever Bennett goes to.

Long term = 4-5 years (guessing) you're only giving up $40-$50K, to then sign on the bigger bucks as a forward which the Broncos wouldn't offer that recoups the one year loss.

That doesn’t really answer the question - what would be the point of negotiating a long term contract he knows he’ll only commit to one year of? For that matter, why would the Broncos agree to put that clause in knowing what that means? Negotiating a 1 year contract would amount to a lot less hassle for everyone involved if the writing is already on the wall.

Because nobody club or player in would sign to a 1 year contract - sorry Jarred Hayne. Can't make it any more simple

And the countless others that pop up if you google “nrl 1 year contract”, but regardless, if that’s the logic you want to go with, nobody enacts a clause to leave a club after one year of a long-term contract either.

Maybe he is covering himself both ways...
If Bennett ends up at Parra or something maybe Oates wont want to follow and will stay at brisbane?
