Discussion Starter - Do you think captaincy and vice-captaincy (IRL) mean anything to a player and does it impact their performance?

It's about time. It always amuses me when I see Langer on the field pretending to carry the water when in fact he's coaching on the field

Does the NRL have any rules against communications devices (eg the NFL quarterback's helmet radio)? Players all wear heartrate monitors - surely it wouldn't be hard to rig one up to be able to let the coach in the grandstand give a halfback a buzz on their left or right side to signal which way they should be heading in attack? Obviously that's the simplest take - wouldn't be hard to have a few preset patterns that could signal specific plays - have all the team wearing them and you get a play call with no audibles.

Better idea - have a couple of smart guys on the team, and get these guys to call these shots. The team would rehearse a heap of plays during the week, and each play would have a 'secret signal'. The smart guys, the shot callers, would use these secret signals to tell the rest of the team what play they're about to do. I reckon we call em, "play makers".

It absolutely does, whether it be a positive or negative is up to the player. There’s not only the scrutiny on the field but there’s also extra media commitments and meetings. Some people thrive under that sort of role, others not so much.

What about other team mates? I'll name a few
Pearce second year at Knights - Captain
Mbye been at Tigers 18 months - Captain
McLean playd 8 games for cows - Vice-Captain

Do you think other players on the team feel hard done by? i.e the likes of Brooks who has spent his whole career as a tiger daly M HB of the year, gets out done by someone who was kicked out of his club and landed at the Tigers?

I’m sure there would be some mate at the end of the day it’s a workforce so there would be the same range of people/ emotions as any other place.

You’d have the ones who just want to do their jobs and go home
Ones that consistently whinge no matter what
    Ambitious ladder climbers
Salty people who feel cheated by the system
    The list goes on

Yeah mate I see your point there. I certainly would feel pretty shit if i put my heart into a club for years and someone who has been there for a year or so gets the top job. I guess thats a credit to their hard work and ethics but still it'd shit ya.

    Morgan, Munster,
    Nikora, Holland,
    B.Morris, Edwards, CNK.

    Mahoney, Kahu, Napa, D.Brown
    Lomax, Keighran, Garrick, Xerri.

Not the best but I think solid with Fifita captain first round. Any thoughts on this lot would be appreciated.

This is pretty decent mate and very similar to my team if I run with Macca.  Not sold on Kahu myself, maybe using your coin to potentially upgrade to a Garner perhaps?  May make your bench look stronger.  That is actually scary similar to one of my recent incantations.

    Morgan vs Capewell

Priced similarly so could be an interesting little debate.

The days of the captain being the most experienced player are over, they have to have other qualities.  Corey Paker wasnt suited to the role.

Sounds complicated, let's just cheat the cap and dope them up.
