Team selection strategy at this point (prior to round 1) should solely be focused on players you think will generate cash. Players who will increase in value. You MUST choose 1-2 guns (Smith, Fensom, Gallen, Parker Mannering etc) who will be your caption option(s). The rest should be solely for the point of building your cash balance as fast as possible to get you to your final 17 who will score you 900+ week in week out.

My initial team selection/makeup is 100% based around which players I estimate will generate the biggest cash increases to get me to my final 17/18/19 players. Whether they be 130k nuffies, 250-300k mid-rangers or 400k+ solid scorers who may be set for a bigger role or more minutes, if I estimate an increase in cash, they will be in my side come round 1.

When you look at 90% of your initial squad, run your eye over each player's price. Aside from your 1-2 gun caption options, if you can't see a future increase in cash value, then cut them. Simple as that. That's my strategy.

But each to their own. At the end of the day, fantasy sports is a game of fun first and foremost.    king

Need the balance between generating cash and scoring points or you will be 1000 points behind by round 12

Forgot to mention, I am solely head to head this season. Big cash comp so putting all my efforts into that.

Everyone assuming Tapine will be the benefactor of Tariq Sims suspension but rumours have Korbin training in the back row. Has anyone looked at Stockwell? Seems to score at 1ppm regardless of how long he plays and may be starting prop in round 1

If you are solely head to head I wouldn't even both with a captaincy option till round 4

so what is the sharks backline situation? i had a peek at their forum last week and most of their posters had barba as their #1. now i know their opinion means nothing but has something changed in the off season? i thought he was WELL on the outter there.

He's also named as #1 for the 9s. again, 9s doesnt mean alot, but the sharks have effectively named a proper team of 13 players (obviously missing some full nrl team players).

I don't think the scores will be that high this time as there have been a lot of bugs in the system the last couple of years that people fraudulently took advantage of & cheated. Anything over 800 will be a great score for the first round.

I can guarantee that the top score in rd1 2014 (the year of the great fanhub clusterfuck) was legit, because I was one of those who got it.

I think its unlikely to be a big issue

If you can find 15 rookies who can average 35 points each, plus Smith + Parker, then you can make a tonne of cash, but you won't win scoring 700 points per round, and by the time you spend your profits you'll be too far behind

That's not going to happen though, and the best value players will include a bunch of guys who score highly enough that you should be fine for getting a good total.

McGuire is a wait and see at this stage coming back from an Achilles injury, origin and the emergence of Ofa and Wallace along with Blair and Thaiday may be eased back in. Will only fill the void if injuries occur and around origin, since he should be fresher than Parker, Gillette, Thaiday who play more origin minutes.

What was the cause of Ethan Lowe's big dropoff after the first bye last year? He was averaging 54 for the first 11 rounds, but dropped to 39 for the rest of the season?

Did he start off in the middle of the park at lock and then swapped with Taumalolo and went to the edge. I seem to remember he had some big tackle numbers early and thought they dropped off a bit

    Averaged 78m Rounds 11-26

But more importantly, because he wasn't running the ball as much tackle breaks dropped from an average of 2.3 per game, to 0.7 per game
And he scored 3 tries rounds 1-10. 0 tries rounds 11-26

The week that I bought him Sad . Play started going back to Cooper via the JT short ball, It wasn't long after that that Cooper got the hattrick against the Eels.

Just going to name some players that have been in my team at some stage this pre-season.

    Hooker: Smith, Segy, Lichaa, Parcell.
FRF: Bromwich, Graham, Vaughan, Trbjevic, JDB, D Alvaro
2RF: Merrin, Rochow, Tapine, Whitehead, Leeson Ah Mau, MCK, Henry, Whitchurch
Halves: DCE, Hastings, Taylor, Te Maire Martin, Cody Walker, JNik
    Centres: Croker, Lyon, Auva'a, Littlejohn
Fullbacks: Gordon, Mansour, Slater, Gutherson, L Mitchell, C Mata'utia

I would be happy to pick a squad from these players. Any of them that I should discard from my thinking?

So out of interest, how much of a differential between priced average and expected average would you say makes a player worth considering? Particularly regarding the mid-high price players (obviously you would be hoping for much bigger differential for a true cash cow than for someone who is already one of your better scorers).

I see someone like Joel Thompson as making a small improvement on last year, around 3-4 points. Is that worth considering him, given that his minutes and job security are pretty predictable?

Around the same price, you've got someone like Cartwright who has far more potential for improvement, but who knows how the Panthers are going to organise their minutes?
