Is there any feeling or advice anywhere that makes some think we are going to lockdown again ? What's happening now made us close up everything previously.

No chance, they will tell everyone to get a booster shot because 2 don't work but that 3rd one's a charm and promote the Covid safe Ap so they can trace you between check ins.

If health services look like getting overwhelmed, they will need to do something to slow the spread, so there is less pressure on the system.Revraiser wrote:Is there any feeling or advice anywhere that makes some think we are going to lockdown again ? From the research I have been doing, it seems that getting a booster shot is the best thing you can do at a personal level to minimize the chance of infection and how ill you are likely to get if you catch omicron.
They just announced the first case in NZ in Christchurch. Seems unusual that they arent pushing getting boosters in NZ, can't get one unless you were vaccinated 6 months ago.

NSW appears now firmly in the "let it rip" camp now.
I guess relying that if cases spiral out of control the hospitalisation rates will be low due to really high vax rates, people dilligently getting the boosters, 5-12yos getting vaxxed soon...
Does seem weird to remove the masks indoors mandate though. Could've easily waited until after the holidays/when kids start getting vaxxed.
As much as I dislike wearing it, it was uncomfortable being in the CBD yesterday with 1300 daily cases up from 800 the day before and suddenly no masks in lifts. And seeing a queue for tests going around the block when there was no queue just days before.
I ended up keeping it on inside. It's 1700-ish today
Anyway, as it currently stands nothing is stopping the footy in 2022

As of Sunday, I finally know someone living in Australia that got COVID, so can at least tick that off my bucket list.

In UK the total number of cases of Omicron is doubling every 2 days (not the number of new cases, the total number of cases!!)
That kind of exponential growth is unstoppable.

Yeah it's pretty mental in raw numbers.
When NSW was at peak delta in June-Sep, the daily rate peaked at about 1700 cases in a day. And it took about 10-11 days from 800 cases, from memory. Done that leap in 2 days this time. And that's without the same efforts to trace, test and generally identify cases. A real daily number could be double, triple, nobody has any idea anymore.
Now this variant does appear less deadly, and pretty much everyone 12+ is vaxxed, but it still does seem like the govt is being overly relaxed now.
We've got from locking down half a city to removing mask mandates and contact tracing while it's getting everywhere. I feel most people here would appreciate somewhere in between.
Anyway my point was I think the threshold for stopping NRL (or any activity) is very high now, to the point its almost not a consideration. Pending further mutations.

Omicron is going to get into NRL teams. I would expect it to delay the start of the season.

It will take a rise in hospitalisation and deaths, not just raw numbers before they consider going back into lockdown.
Seems crazy that they are removing restrictions just as everything is starting to explode though. There is plenty of room for movement in between the extremes of lockdown and "let her rip" that they seem to be ignoring.
Like robelgordo, Sunday marked the first covid case in Australia for someone I know personally. But over the past few days I know a heap of people who have become close/casual contacts so I expect that number to rise.
We can see what happens to the premier league over the next month or so to get an idea of how it might impact the NRL.
From a purely fantasy view, part of me would love to see the chaos of postponements and double game weeks in the 2022 season.

This is based on a Pfizer directive.
The ideal is to get a booster after 6 months, however Pfizer are advising countries where Omicron is widespread and with rapid growth to shortcut it to 3 months - obviously we (NZ) currently are in a well-contained environment, so it's 6 months and constant monitoring to see if/when things change...

Just some general updates for anyone that has missed the last week or so:
Corey Norman has retired after 228 NRL games, which he described as “Almost 250 games. 250 of the best." - He did show some real talent and potential as a young Bronco.
While it's probably unusual to retire at 30 years old without any significant injury, Corey stated; "Yeah I was just like na I’m not even keen to play anymore hey" - it reminds me of the occasional time I considered buying Corey Norman for my fantasy squad which was also "Yeah I was just like na I’m not even keen to play (if I have to resort to getting Corey Norman in my team) hey"
The Eels re-signed Junior Paulo through to 2026 (widely considered to be a marquee target for the Dolphins), and also extended Haze Dunster through to 2025.
The Eels also signed Bailey Simonsson on a 3 year deal commencing '22.
It's also rumored that Bevan French may be looking to return to the Eels.
Nick Cotric has finally been released from Bulldogs and returns to the Raiders immediately, signing a 3 year contract - 2024. The Bulldogs previously had 31 contracted players in their 30 man roster.
The Dolphins have signed 3 more young players: Michael Roberts (brother of Jimmy the Jet), Harrison Graham (20yo Hooker), and future fantasy cow Valynce Te Whare (who will of course be known as VTW) from the Waikato NPC (rugby) team.
** The Sydney Roosters have today announced the signing of Brandon Smith to a three-year deal commencing in 2023
** James Roberts appears to have trained well in his train and trial deal at the Wests Tigers and looks likely to be signed on a one-year base price deal (he should be really cheap in Fantasy too... )

Forget your Covid Omicron concerns for a minute, and enjoy some real life NBA Jam (for those of you old enough to recall NBA Jam);

And on a positive note Tigers have re=signed Jimmy Jet for another year. You would want to hope it's minimum wage

I’m still wearing a mask at work as I come into close contact with so many people from the public.
I do think Covid will affect the footy next year though with players having to isolate and it could really affect fantasy next year!

Tom Burgess has Covid Souths had to return from their pre season camp only just hours into it. All the squad are now getting tested and are isolating.
