With 4 less places this year in your squad, burning trades to get numbers is going to be even harder unless you're trading players you want to keep anyway. Saying that though, players that are good with holding trades at this point of the season could do a couple of luxury trade outs then back ins the week later once the bye has passed of the same player.

Don't know who would start lock though? Herman, Buhrer?

The problem at the moment is that some of the good early season cows will peak in the next 3 weeks or so.
But there isn't a tonne of options to replace them with. We need a base price player to pop up that is good for a 25-30 average to allow us to generate the cash for our final teams.

Is it safe to say it's best to avoid origin guys this year until after origin?
Is that a given?

Yeah that's the problem. It's not so much who to trade out it's who to get in that you can cash out too but won't screw the balance of the team up.

This is so true... a lot of players that are on the fringe of getting a start already have fantasy history and don't come in at bottom dollar.
If no one pops up is there an alternative strategy? or just hold and wait?
Maybe cash-out a fringe gun to a low-mid range cow?

Cash out to someone like Reece Robinson, James Segeyaro, Keegan Hipgrave, Jaydn S'ua, Akila Uate and hope they can pull something out their butts.
They'll still need at least 2 scores in a row to get the $100k+ we want, but at the moment its best bet if you need a trade in now.
Not that I am actually wishing injury upon anyone, but if a spot opened up for a rookie half/hooker to get a secure(ish) starting spot that would be a big help.

Feels like the waiting game might be the best way to play it. Just hope for something to happen

Just hoping for Isaako, Croker, RFM, Thompson, Kennar, Havili, Lodge, TPJ to get another big game so I can ride their prices for a few more weeks until something comes up. Hopefully if Katoa comes into the squad he can help me justify why I left him as an NPR this whole time!

Re: 2018 NRL.com Fantasy thread part 27
A couple of potentials;
Oldfield 262K (if Wighton gets stood down)
Hingano 262K (if he someone gets a start, which he probably won't)
Mann 288K (Needs an injury but solid player if he can get on the park)
Holmes 317K (could actually be okay but looks to have bottomed out now)
And, there's always Elgey!?

I don't think Katoa will get back in the squad unless there is an injury.

I think much more so that last year, the bye strategy is something that is built mourned your overall strategy. There are a number of ways to do this, but IMO the main thing you need to get sorted is your final 17 or 18 or 19 *what ever you are targeting.
No point going hard for a bye strategy if it means your team from round 17 is 12 guns and a bunch of mid range / crap guys.... Which is what I think it will be you've burnt a whole bunch of trades trying to max round 13 and 17 points!

Katoa is my cashout for Duffy. Im content with leaving my WFB Thompson, Ponga and Teddy.
This will fund my upgrade of JMK to SJ. If Katoa gets named next week, hopefully be just enough to get him.

Yep. No point sacrificing 20 points from a week from rounds 6-13 to get you an extra 100 points in round 13 (Numbers made up but the philosophy is the same)

Yeah, I'm looking at Whitehead to Rochow... and Godinet (who will probably lose more minutes with Liddle and Jrey in the picture) to Robinson...
That gives me 370k for a decent upgrade next week

No, I don't think so, necessarily. Origin players play one less game than non-orgigin guys. Doing the math on the fly, but with 20 rounds left (including bye rounds), f your non-origin guy averages 50 from here on in he scores 950 points. If you could find an origin guy who average 53 over the remainder of the season you'd be better off going with him, all else equal.

Re: 2018 NRL.com Fantasy thread part 27
Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan has revealed winger Sione Katoa is three weeks ahead of schedule in making his return from injury.
Katoa broke his jaw in his NRL debut but eyeing an early comeback according to his coach.
“He’s recovering from a broken jaw,” Flanagan told the Market Watch podcast.
“He’s probably two or three weeks away at the moment he’s probably around Round 7 or 8.
“We’ll see where the teams at and Sione is at.
“He’s definitely an exciting talent and first grade winger. He can break tackles and finish tries off, he just needs to get his fair share of games and I’m sure he’ll get them this year.”
“We’re really looking forward to getting him back. Whether he needs a couple of games in second grade or comes back straight in, time will tell.”

Cool, Katoa will be a nice cash out in a few rounds time
