Tell your wife Packer is a trap.SoylentGreen wrote:Just set up my wife's team - thinking of using it to test out a theory I've had for a while that the "balance" of a team doesn't really make any difference, and it's more just us fantasy nerds trying to make our teams look like a squad that would be feasible in reality.
Basically I've picked from most expensive available player (regardless of position) until i reach the point where the next highest priced player would prevent me from filling the remaining slots. Then filled from the bottom up with the players most likely to actually get a game.
The Significant Others':
Smith, (JNiko)
Fifita, Packer, Lawrence, (CWN)
Parker, Gallen, Mannering, Pauli (MCK, Bhana)
Thurston, Hunt, Hastings, Taylor
Matai, Avua'a, (Henry, Griffin)
RTS, Copley, Gutherson, (C.Matautia, Anderson)
Captain choice would be the hardest decision each week.

I'm going to try to stick to my guns (pardon the pun) on this one. It's more to try to prove a point than to actually pick the best team. Some of the cheapies can switch around come TLT, but that will only really potentially change a couple of those couple of low-mid players (Packer/Lawrence/Copley) who i might be able to bump up a bit.

Anyone considering both Merrin and Cartwright? I know Panthers backrow is a nightmare to predict minutes but both these players have potential to score well

I was looking at Lawrence, Cartwright and Merrin instead of Woods, Tapine and T-rex

I prefer that. Contract year or not having Trex in my 17 would kill me.multiple.scoregasms wrote:

Just on Trex we'll know after 1 round if this year will be different. It's crazy to start with him when you can just trade him for an underpermor

After bagging the Warriors & Luke I now have him in my team with Hurrell & Henry. I cleared my team & auto filled & it came up with some interesting selections which I actually like so I used the auto fill & tweaked it a bit with my original selections. What I like about it are there are plenty of dpp's.It looks like this.
Luke, Granville
Woods, Papalii, Lawrence, A. Kaufusi
Parker, Surgess, Cartwright, Ah Mau, Welch-Nichol, Henry
DCE, Hastings, Taylor, J-Nik
Hurrell, Auva'a, Gutherson, MCK
Ferguson, Mansour, M. Gordon, Copley, Anderson

Not sure If it's been posted on here yet but I found this interesting.
http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/teams/raiders/nrl-rising-canberra-raiders-star-lachlan-croker-will-play-like-kodi-nikorima-from-the-bench-in-2016/news-story/1a26e445f75442cc45b442859c19ede4
Lachlan played in the 9's last year (and will do so again this year) and looked good making the step up to playing against men. Apparently he is a similiar size to Fensom so he should be able to cover a few positions if Ricky does go down this route. Whether this means he actually gets any minutes or if he winds up getting the sort of time Bateman got is a whole different kettle though.
Edit: Just thought, this might make Lachlan one to keep an eye on around origin time if Sezar, Austin or even Wighton get a call up (depending on when Raiders have their byes obviously, I haven't looked)

Also WL, with a few exceptions I quite like that lineup, looks pretty well balanced and I think Hurrel & Henry are both worth a gamble.

Yeah I'm not actually a fan of Copley so I could downgrade him & upgrade Luke. I actually like Papalii in the front row if he plays 80 like last year & Parker, Surgess, Cartwright & Ah Mau in the second row plus the fact that Papalii, Surgess & Ah Mau are all dpp's so they're interchangeable.

Tbh I'm more against fingers Fergusson. Both because I don't like him and because I remember when he had to fill in at FB for the Raiders. But I can understand why others are interested. But yeah Copley... eh might be worth it for the upgrade on Luke, then again Luke could be a masterstroke haha.

I'm running with both at the moment. Depends on team lists. If I don't end up running with Merrin, I will go for De Belin and maybe upgrade somewhere else.
But as I say, team lists will change everything.

I'm leaning towards James Graham only because at the Dogs Parra game last year in Sydney, I ran down to the fence behind where he was warming down on the bike, yelled out to him and showed him the little figurine of himself and said I needed a photo with himself and the figurine! He yelled out he'd come over after the fulltime handshake. I didn't believe him. Sure enough, at full time he runs over straight towards me, bypassing a heap of fans and my mate ends up getting a video of it which now sits on my instagram. Legend.
Cool story, Cuban. I am going with Woods because I think his pack is much weaker and will need him more. But I think you gotta side with Graham after that. I High-fived Adam Reynolds once. Never leaving my fantasy team again.

So what will you do when both Cartwright and Merrin are named to start?

Couldn't agree more. Don't understand the love for the guy. Sure he will go 'OK', but as a mid ranger on the higher scale with regard to price, what is the upside?
As a massive LAM supporter I think i have to weigh in on this, MS covered most of the points in his upside
In comparison to JTurbo who many consider to be in for big minutes and a points increase
over the final 10 rounds of last season I have discounted JTurbos R23 where he only scored 16 in 27 minutes as was likely injured so only 9 games for him
10 consecutive rounds is a decent sample size I feel
JTurbo
R17-R26
avg mins 56 avg points 49.5
LAM
R17-26
avg mins 51 (50.7) avg points 49.1
The major difference i feel is the supporting cast around each player last year JTurbo turned into the main man in that Manly pack surrounded by mediocrity so his minutes went up as the season progressed, whilst LAM had the likes of Merrin, Cooper, Frizell yet still received an increased role
Merrin has now obviously gone, and LAM showed he could maintain that points avg with and without Merrin in he last 10 games, JTurbo now has Myles, Taupau, Brown, Lawrence returning to that Manly pack
His points are almost entirely base as well, any sort of attacking game and his scores will soar
To me Ah Mau carries little risk and big, big upside.
