Yep, and that's how a lot of people get caught out. It's a genius move if you pick the right cheapy in the 2nd hooker slot, as it frees up 300k to give you 1 or potentially 2 more guns elsewhere. But if you pick a dud who promised the world in pre-season, then all of a sudden you have lost 1 position that can house a gun. And unless another cheapie comes along, you can't trade them out/upgrade either.Milchcow wrote:Honey Badger wrote:I think if Parcell starts he would be very hard to leave out as a cash cow. Picking Parcell would allow you to have another gun fwd. Im not sold on any of the fwds around the 160k mark.
There is also the potential of extra minutes when Matai gets injured, walker shifts into the centres, koro into the halves leaving Parcell to play at hooker!
If Parcell starts but only plays 40 minutes, then he might make some cash, but he'll do it slowly and won't score well enough to be in your 17 whilst he's doing it.
There are a lot of gun scoring hookers out there, and picking Parcell means you are giving up one of your hooker slots.
I see him being similar to Moseley last year, the odd good score but a lot of meh.

Give me the crash course boys, haven't looked at anything yet just opened fantasy and had a look through.
Here is what i've picked up of interest so far.
1. Auva'a - was solid scorer in the centres got suspended due to some incident last year? Surely great value if he gets a start
2. Benry - Was solid in CTR/2rf position, spent a fair bit of time in 2rf so was good for 30 points each week, great value at this price? Not sure on whether start or not
3. Lawrence - Not intro required out due to injury last year, was good for 35 - 40 at prop, he still got his spot?
4. T. Arona - Had some success 2 years ago, average last year, still seems like good value even if he only sees 30 mins a game?
5. J. Nikorima - He would benefit from Maloney and Pearce being gone?
6. T. Moltzen - Not a superstar but was good for 25 - 30 good value/cash cow?
7. M. Brown - same as above
8. Matt Srama - same as above gain, not sure if he will get a bench spot though or decent game time at all?
9. Ben Barba - $178k worth a punt or is it a TRAPPPPPPPPPPP
10. Soward $268k - If he gets a starting spot surely he is a must have at that price?
11. Tafua $283k - Good value? Whats his JS look like? Can go bang or bust still seems like ok value at 283, probably not a lot of room for cowing though
Sure ive missed a few, but thats just what caught my eye from the last hour

Yeah ideally i'd start with 2 gun hookers but just trying to hunt down the best cash cow and find the highest scoring 17th man possible.

Auva'a popular for good reason.lukeaye wrote:SI wrote:

Benry I am wary of personally.
Lawrence was shopped around so not sure where he is in the pecking order.
Arona I have my eye on as well
Niko is up in the air.
Moltz, no mate!
Mitch Brown, he's a handsome devil, and I have much man love for him, but better out there at that price.
Srama will be a bit player in the scheme of things at best.
Barba is a smokey depending on where he starts/doesn't start.
Taufua is just too awkwardly priced for me with all the potential rookies and other mid rangers.

Niko isn't guaranteed the starting spot even with Pearce out, Aubbs is a chance to play 5/8. Moltzen is behind Walker/Lyon and Koro if he isn't used at hooker for a spot.

My never having him is obviously more about my shitty teams than his fantasy ability then.Scouter wrote:

Arona, Moltzen, Brown, Srama and possibly BHenry are all going to struggle to make money. Most of them air even be in the 17 reach week.
As for J Niko, no guarantee he takes Pearce's spot. Everyone is just going on a hunch here.

If Barba gets the fullback spot he will be popular. But he has to beat Holmes and Bird to get there first

Current teams listed here will most definitely change dramatically come the start of Round 1. As Milchow was saying what happens if the bare priced rookies that all of us have in our teams e.g MCK, BHenry, JNiko, K Edwards, Hurrell, Gutherson etc are not selected in the 17? do you run with 134K priced players that aren't selected and have the potential to play later in the season or do you upgrade to players priced at 170-200 to get potential price rises out of selected players and downgrade a couple of gun players.
What to do, what to do?
On a side note. I am trying to fill my fifth 2rd or 3rd frf slot with a base priced player or someone up to 200K. Any ideas? Already have MCK and B Henry. Currently have Carter slotted in there, but doubt that will hold water.

Second draft team, one major flaw (Pauli) otherwise pretty happy.
Segeyaro Granville
Fifita Pauli
Parker Merrin Lovett Lane
DCE Milford
Lafai Hurrell
Fergusson Mansour Gordon
Relies on a few former decent scorers to have a better season than last. Would like to swap out Pauli from my starting side but lacking good options around $300k in FRF which is what I could afford if I changed a CTR or WFB to the likes of Copely/Auva'a/Henry. Any thoughts?

If all those bottom priced rookies don't make the 17 then my strategy would be to just throw in a bunch of guys who are potentially going to get a run in the future like Angus Crichton and just rely on your starting team for as long as you can. It's not ideal but everyone will kind of be in the same boat anyway.
As for based price 2RF maybe go Aaron Whitchurch? He's in the running to take the vacant wing spot while Maranta and Reed are out of action so he's at least someone that could get a couple of games to make a little cash.

If your not making money out of your 17-25 your not going to stay in contention for long though. PGC posted earlier today or yesterday that all of his early trades last year were aimed at generating cash.Johnny B Goode wrote:

Re: 2016 NRL.com Fantasy thread part 4
Could you extend it to $340k? Doesn't matter either way as there are quite a few at least on a par with Pauli below $300 k I reckon. Below 300k I would look at Grant/RGC/Ava as being able to increase their averages this year. If you want a POD with potential then I would go Ava, he is a worker who is starting to find himself in attack.Vestid wrote:Second draft team, one major flaw (Pauli) otherwise pretty happy.

If you get it up to 340k then you will have the likes of Blair and Hannant (neither may increase their average much though) Sue/Sims/Heighno who could all potentially increase points this year.
Just personally I would be taking a risk on Auv'a to give you the extra coin.

Anyone know how to specifically order the teams on the draft league?
